“Downtown” Acrylic/canvas 30x24” 1997 P
What was ”Downtown” Brooklyn? It was Fulton Street and Flatbush Extension, A&S, the Albee, Martin’s, the Paramount, The Fox, and Juniors. It was department store shopping and Brooklyn’s movie palaces. The subway stop on the BMT was “DeKalb.” Sure we had “THE CITY... ” that was Manhattan. But we also had our own “DOWNTOWN.”
